The Creative Xdock does not work for video output with any current iPod models.
If you own a older iPod, you might be happy with this product, but if you own an iPhone or iPod Touch you will not be able to use the video out functionality.

I bought this heavily-discounted Xdock as a video interface - to allow me to view TV shows purchased on iTunes on my flat screen TV. Also driving this decision was the compatibility mess that Apple has created, with regard to which video output cables will work with which generation of iPod (and this extends to the version of firmware the iPod is running)... And, the price of the typical Apple composite output cable was more than the entire Xdock! Seem like a win-win situation? Sadly, it turns out that Xdock too has a limited compatibility list for video output, so if you have say an iPod Nano (g3 or g4) you are out of luck. On the upside the unit is well-built, with a nice remote. It can connect via Toslink, if you have a spare optical input on your amp/receiver. The sound enhancement features are switchable, do work, and the effect is noticeable though not overpowering, especially for lower-bitrate MP3's. So, if you are looking for an inexpensive way to connect a dockable iPod to your home theater controller for music, this unit could be what you need (although there are many, many other choices). If you want to show video, make very certain that your exact iPod is supported before you purchase the Xdock.

I purchased the Xdock to ease the connection of my iPhone 3GS to a Yamaha YSP-1 Sound-bar over the SPDIF optical input.
Pro:
- Excellent audio quality from optical when decoded with a DTS decoder/amp.
- Optical cable (mini optical to SPDIF) included.
- Charges iPod and iPhone 3GS (with the usual compatibility nag.)
- Core controls are on dock (Vol, Play/Pause, Stop.)
Con:
- Remote isn't all that impressive. Sound enhancement options appear to be accessible only from the remote.
- The dock itself is large.
- The usual wall wart.
- Video output with specific iPods only.

I purchased this item in Amazon for my iPhone 3GS. It works pretty well with iPhone 3GS even though the item description says it is for iPod.
Cons:
- The video out on Xdock will not work with iPod Touch, iPod Classic, iPod Nano (3rd generation), iPhone.
- Remote and the devise is bulky when compared with Apple Universal Dock
- The audio out (3.5 mm AUX) is present just beside the infrared remote port in the front of the dock. If you are using this audio out, speaker's cable some times block the remote signals and you have to come straight to the infrared port to use remote.
Pros:
- It really enhances the sound quality. I tested my speakers with and without using this dock and i can clearly notice the sound difference.
- Remote works perfectly. It has good range and has all the features you need to control iPod.
- It comes with different docking adapters so you can place your iPod and iPhone on the dock perfectly.
- It has video out, s-video out, audio line in and out, audio optical line out, USB connectors.
- The dock comes with universal charger and adapters, video cable and audio optical cable.
Overall it is a great replacement to Apple Universal Dock which is expensive than this. If you are looking for smaller device to save some space and want video out from iPhone, i recommend you to go for Apple Universal Dock. Take a look at both items if you are planing to buy one.
Large dock, works with newer ipod + touch + iphone3g January 12, 2010

I originally purchased this item as an upgrade for my Creative Labs Xmod USB Sound Card for PC & Mac, but only to find out it CAN NOT be doubled as a USB sound card, which I think would earn this product the extra point. But there is a work around, you can connect both product via a single standard audio cable using the line in/out port. Otherwise, great product if you are looking for a simply solution to improve the sound quality of your speakers. Be aware of its size, it's much larger than I pictured it in my mind. The product works with iPod Touch 1st gen, and iPhone 3G, which I both tested. And for that price, it may just be the best value iPod sound dock if you already have a pair of speaker.
